No more having to stop after you cross the finish line.

BENEFITS
Preventable diseases kill 29,000 children under the age of five every day around the world, says a report from UNICEF.

Child mortality rates have actually increased in 14 countries, including nine in sub-Saharan Africa, mostly because of HIV/AIDS, the report said.

Globally, 10.6 million children are still dying from preventable causes every year.

  • Pneumonia and other acute respiratory infections kill approximately two million children every year, making it the leading cause of death of children under five years of age.
  • Diarrhoeal disease kills 1.6 million children every year, primarily by causing severe dehydration that can quickly result in organ failure in young children.
  • Malaria kills 3,000 African children every day, making it the largest cause of death for children under five on the continent. Persistent anemia, lifelong brain damage or paralysis can result in survivors.
  • Measles kills more than half a million children every year. It is the most contagious of the child killers. Measles can also lead to life-long disabilities, including blindness, brain damage and deafness. Half of the childhood corneal blindness in developing countries is attributable to measles infection.
  • HIV infects 1,800 under the age of 15 every day. Most cases are transmitted from mother to baby during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding.
  • Because of a lack of access to immunizations, Perusis kills 294,000 children annually age 5 and under. Although pertussis may occur at any age, most serious cases (including brain damage) and the majority of fatalities are observed in early infancy, a time when pertussis is most severe. If children are not immunized, they have an 80 percent chance of contracting whooping cough before the age of five.
  • Tetanus, another vaccine preventable disease, still continues to kill 198,000 children annually, many of these infants. Neonatal tetanus generally occurs during the first few days of life when a woman delivers her baby in unsanitary conditions.

What is FAME?
FAME is an organization that exists to provide healing for the whole man through medicine and evangelism. Its name comes from the King James Version of the Bible in Luke 4:14 when Luke (the doctor) writes about Jesus and his healing power and says that there spread a fame of Christ in all the regions round about.

Because much of the need in developing countries involves preventable illnesses, FAME has launched a new program that will emphasize illness prevention, health promotion, and community ownership. It is called Community Health Evangelism (CHE) and it has been used successfully in many parts of the world for over twenty years. FAME's first CHE program is in the initial implementation stage in Ghana. Through FAME's partnership with Ghana Christian Mission, the goal is to establish a CHE program associated with all nine of the FAME clinics in Ghana. FAME's ultimate plan is to develop a model medical mission that would provide curative care, prevention programs, and effective evangelism. This working model would allow FAME to develop more effective medical missions methodologies that could be shared with medical missionaries worldwide.

Partnering in medical evangelism is what FAME is all about. From Africa to Asia, from the Americas to Europe, FAME has extended the touch of the Great Physician.
