BRICKS TO BRICKS: MINI MARATHON TRAINING PROGRAM

Indianapolis, Ind. - Although the weather outside may be frightful, now is the perfect time to start training for the 2004 Indianapolis Life 500 Festival Mini Marathon.

In partnership with St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers, Ken Long & Associates (KLA) offers Bricks to Bricks, a 17-week training program designed for all abilities and ages. The program will prepare participants both physically and mentally by offering weekly coaching on mileage, pace, stretching, strengthening, diet, prevention of injuries, training gear, and problems with over-training. The program will also provide a complete overview of the mini marathon.

Runners and walkers can choose from five levels of training, including Level 1 for those who currently walk or run 10 miles or less a week to Level 5 for those who have been running or waling for several years and who want to improve competitively. Separate classes are held for runners and walkers.

Participants can choose from a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening session beginning the week of January 12, 2004. Coaching will last for one hour and will be held at the following locations:

  • Greenwood United Methodist Church, Greenwood (Mondays)
  • Roberts Park United Methodist Church, downtown Indianapolis (Tuesday)
  • Franklin College, Auditorium of Hamilton Library, Franklin (Tuesdays)
  • St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove (Wednesdays)
  • Hummel Park, Plainfield (Wednesdays)
  • Northminster Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis (Thursdays)
  • Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, Indianapolis (Thursdays)
  • Fort Wayne Sports Club at the YWCA of Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne (Thursdays)

Cost of the Bricks to Bricks training program is $55 if registered by December 15, 2003; $65 if registered by January 5, 2004; and $75 after January 5, 2004. The fee includes training by experienced and knowledgeable coaches, a training manual, weekly mileage, group runs and walks, handouts, a t-shirt, and speakers. In addition, on race day, all Bricks to Bricks participants will receive access to KLA's Victory Tent featuring refreshments from Fazoli's, a one-use camera with which the KLA staff will take a photo featuring a display clock with the participants' finish time and a Miracle Marble.

Bricks to Bricks started in 1979, and has continued to train runners and walkers for 25 years. For information, or to register, call KLA at (317) 884-4001, or visit www.kenlongassoc.com. Registration will also be held at St. Francis' Jump the Gun event on January 9.
