St. Francis "Jumps the Gun" on Mini-Marathon training
First time the annual tradition includes a qualification race

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Life 500 Festival Mini-Marathon participants can jump-start their training at the 18th annual St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers Jump the Gun event on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004. This year the event includes a four-mile timed run and 4-mile timed competitive walk, managed by Ken Long & Associates, and a four-mile fitness walk held outside St. Francis Hospital's Indianapolis (South) campus, 8111 S. Emerson Ave.

The event, traditionally held in January, was moved to November to coordinate with the release of the Mini-Marathon applications. By participating in the Jump the Gun four-mile run, participants can qualify for seeding in the Indianapolis Life 500 Festival Mini-Marathon.

The pre-event activities and health screenings, which are open to the public, begin at 7:00am. The competitive four-mile race begins at 8:45am, and the timed and fitness walks begin at 9:00am. Bob Evans is sponsoring a post-race breakfast for runners and walkers from 9-11am.

Educational sessions on topics including nutrition, race fitness, training gear, Mini-Marathon logistics and more will be offered.

Because of an anticipated early Mini-Marathon sellout, the 500 Festival will provide online registration at the event. Hundreds of runners and walkers are anticipated.
