GREAT day, GREAT course, GREAT participants and GREAT Fazoli's food!

Over 1600 runners and walkers participated in the 2005 St. Vincent's Sports Medicine Polar Bear Run & Walk -- which is the second event of KLA's Step Up to the Mini & Beyond Series.

This is the third year for this particular course in the 23 year history of the event. In the run, the top three males broke 24 minutes and the fourth male ran 24:08. Sub 5-minute miles went to the top 9 finishers. The record is 23:25 held by Jim Jurcevich in 2003.

In the women's race the top three ran under 27:30 and the fourth and fifth finishing under 28 minutes! First female finisher, Erin Nehus of Indianapolis ran 27:00 flat and broke the course record of 27:23 set in 2003.

The Men's Masters was won by Tim Mylin, Carmel at 25:32 and Jean Lampert, Indianapolis at 32:22.

The 5-Mile Competitive Walk was won at 44:42 by Max Walker of Greenwood and Theresa Amerman of Indianapolis at 52:36. The men's course record was set by Max Walker in 2003 with a time of 42:12 and the women's record is held by Tish Roberts at 51:35.

Many people took advantage of Gray Goat Sports (formerly Feet First) 20% discount on running and walking merchandise, door prizes and refreshments.

We also want to thank all the people who generously donated merchandise or money to support area shelters for homeless dogs and cats. You made the effort a great success!

Huge thanks to all the volunteers, Indianapolis police officers, Indiana War Memorial police and the Department of Transportation for their support. Remember, without these people, our sport could not happen.

We hope to see you for the third event in the Step Up To The Mini & Beyond Series - the Indianapolis Distance Classic on Sunday, March 13th.
