St. Francis named an ASBS Center of Excellence - 6/15/07 St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. The Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery. "This national accreditation reaffirms the safety, support, quality care and positive outcomes for our patients." said Dr. Jonathan mandelbaum, surgical co-director at the St. Francis Weight Loss Center, where more than 500 surgical procdedures have taken place since its opening in 2002. To earn the designation, the St. Francis Weight Loss Center and St. Francis Hospital underwent a rigorous process during which all aspects of the program's surgical processes were closely examined and data on health outcomes was collected.
St. Vincent Health honors 4 founders - 5/23/06 St. Vincent Health celebrated 125 years of health-care service to Central Indiana residents Wednesday, dedicating a statue of the four Daughters of Charity at the St. Vincent Reflection Garden, resembling the original Daughters who arrived in Indianapolis on April 26, 1881. The mission of St. Vincent started with the four sisters' journey to Indianapolis with $34.77 in their pockets and the renovation of an abandoned seminary on East Vermont Street Downtown into a hospital. From that start, St. Vincent has developed into a 16-hospital system offering health-care services throughout the state. |

Francis recognized for medication safety - 12/20/05 St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers has been named one of the top three health systems in the nation for excellence in medication-use safety. The Indianapolis hospital system this month was recognized as a finalist for the 2005 Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacies' Research and Education Foundation. The award recognizes pharmacy professionals who promote safety in medication use, St. Francis reported in a news release. The award recognizes St. Francis for its creation of the Medication Event Decision Support Team, designed to prevent adverse medication reactions. Launched in 2001, the team promoted a work environment for sharing information, developed a safety reporting system and fostered multidisciplinary team-work. Continuing to build on this foundation, St. Francis reported, it has embraced use of technology to improve medication safety and communications. Evanston (Ill.) Northwestern healthcare received the 2005 award. St. Francis and Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, Calif, were the two national finalists. As a finalist, St. Francis reported, it receives a $10,000 grant to be used for future medication safety improvements. | |||
